The No. 10 Miami Hurricanes travelled to Dallas hoping to strengthen their playoff credentials but instead fell to a heart breaking overtime defeat against SMU, losing 26–20.
Miami led 10–7 at half-time after a controlled opening stretch but allowed SMU to claw back into contention. The Mustangs tied the game at 17–17 entering the fourth quarter before both sides traded field goals to force overtime at 20–20.
In overtime, Miami had the first possession but Carson Beck’s pass towards the goal-line was intercepted by SMU defensive back Ahmaad Moses, setting up the decisive drive. The Mustangs capitalised immediately, with T.J. Harden punching in a one yard touchdown run to complete the upset.
