Hard Rock Stadium is officially sold out for tonight’s Miami-Florida State rivalry game, and the Hurricanes couldn’t ask for a better stage to continue their unbeaten start.
Miami Athletics confirmed the sell out on Friday, with supporters also preparing for an Orange Out. No. 3 Miami enter at 5-0, while Florida State arrive at 3-3 following last weekend’s defeat at Louisville.
The Hurricanes are chasing their first 6-0 start since 2017 and a third consecutive victory over the Seminoles.
There’s plenty at stake, even if the two teams arrive in very different form.
Miami have the numbers to justify the expectations
The ACC’s latest statistics highlight just how complete Mario Cristobal’s team have been.
Miami lead the FBS in scoring offence at 49.6 points per game and scoring defence at just 9.8 points allowed.
Darian Mensah has been exceptional, completing 84.2% of his passes with 15 touchdowns and no interceptions. Meanwhile, Mark Fletcher Jr. and Javian Mallory have combined for 596 rushing yards.
After Louisville ran for 397 yards against Florida State last weekend, Miami should fancy their chances of establishing the ground game.
But I’d rather see the Hurricanes control possession and protect Mensah than become distracted by trying to produce another enormous scoreline.
Florida State still present a few challenges
The Seminoles have nine players ruled out, although defensive back Zae Thomas has been removed from the latest injury report.
Miami’s six confirmed absences remain unchanged, including starting right guard Max Buchanan. That makes offensive-line protection an important area to watch.
Florida State quarterback Ashton Daniels is another concern. His ten rushing touchdowns demonstrate why Miami cannot afford to lose discipline when he escapes the pocket.
Corey Hetherman does at least have more defensive options available following the bye, with Xavier Lucas, Marquise Lightfoot, Ezekiel Marcelin Jr. and Damari Brown no longer listed among the unavailable players.
Miami have the stronger team on paper. The challenge is making that advantage count.

A sold out Hard Rock Stadium, an Orange Out and one of college football’s biggest rivalries.
Another late night from Yorkshire, but this is exactly the sort of occasion that makes following The U from across the Atlantic worthwhile.
The Last Word from Across the Pond
What interests me most tonight isn’t whether Miami can win by three touchdowns. It’s whether they can handle being overwhelming favourites in a rivalry that has so often produced the unexpected.
This team have spent five games showing how talented they are. Tonight is an opportunity to demonstrate something equally important: the maturity to deal with expectation.
A controlled victory would tell me far more about Miami’s championship credentials than simply running up the score.
