Miami are on their bye week.
There has been no major new commitment this morning and no fresh official injury update has changed the picture.
But something else has changed.
The way people are talking about this team.
Miami are no longer being discussed simply as an ACC contender.
They are increasingly being discussed as a team capable of winning the whole thing.
Miami are firmly in the national conversation
On3’s latest look at the national championship picture has Miami among a small group of teams carrying double-digit title chances on Polymarket.
The Hurricanes sit at 12 per cent, level with Alabama and behind Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Texas.
Prediction markets are not rankings.
They certainly do not guarantee anything.
But they are useful for showing how perception has shifted.
Miami entered the season with huge expectations after reaching January’s national championship game.
Five games later, very little we have seen has reduced them.
If anything, the case has strengthened.
The Hurricanes are 5-0, No. 4 in the country and sitting alone at the top of the ACC.
That is exactly where this programme wanted to be.
The challenge now is staying there.
Clemson changed the way Miami are being viewed
Saturday’s 41-13 win at Clemson is not fresh news.
But it explains why the wider conversation has changed.
Miami did not scrape out of Death Valley with a late field goal.
They controlled the game.
The Hurricanes rushed for 192 yards, Mark Fletcher Jr. scored twice and the defence produced six sacks while holding Clemson to just 55 rushing yards.
That performance moved Miami to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the ACC.
It also showed that this team can travel into one of college football’s biggest environments and look completely comfortable.
That matters when people start talking seriously about the College Football Playoff.
The bye week gives Miami exactly what they need
For all the title talk, the priority this week remains pretty simple.
Recover.
Miami came out of Clemson carrying several knocks, and Mario Cristobal has already spoken about using the bye to get the roster healthier and prepare more players to contribute.
There has been no fresh official medical update this morning, so there is little value in guessing about individual timelines.
Miami do not play again until 17 October.
That gives the Hurricanes time.
And for once, UK Canes get a Saturday without a midnight alarm, tactical nap or an internal debate about whether four hours’ sleep counts as enough.
Even better, several other national contenders have games to play while Miami sit at home.
Sometimes a very good bye week involves doing absolutely nothing and watching everybody else make life difficult for themselves.
The Last Word from Across the Pond
The Hurricanes are 5-0, No. 4 in the country and increasingly being treated as one of the genuine national championship contenders.
Prediction markets do not win trophies, of course.
Miami learned last season just how difficult the final step can be.
For now, the best thing Cristobal’s team can do is recover, get healthier and let everybody else play this weekend.
Florida State will arrive soon enough.
