The Miami Hurricanes have parted ways with defensive end Hayden Lowe, head coach Mario Cristobal confirmed ahead of the opening practice of fall camp.
Speaking on The Joe Rose Show, Cristobal said that the University of Miami and Lowe had “parted ways”, while wishing the young defender well in his future endeavours. No further details have been provided regarding the reason for his departure.
Lowe arrived in Coral Gables as one of the most highly rated members of Miami’s 2025 recruiting class after flipping his commitment from USC. The California prospect was viewed as a potential future difference-maker on the edge and generated positive reports during his first spring with the Hurricanes.
However, an injury prevented Lowe from playing during the 2025 season. He underwent surgery, redshirted his freshman campaign and also missed much of Miami’s 2026 spring practices for undisclosed reasons.
His departure removes another option from Miami’s defensive end rotation, but the Hurricanes still have several talented edge defenders available, including Damon Wilson II, Armondo Blount, Marquise Lightfoot, Herbert Scroggins and Booker Pickett.
Lowe leaves Miami without having been able to show the potential that made his signing such an exciting recruiting victory.
The last word from across the pond
Hayden Lowe’s time at The U never really got started. Injuries denied him the opportunity to make an impact during his first season, and his departure leaves Canes fans wondering what might have been.
Miami must now move forward with the talented pass rushers already inside the building as the 2026 season approaches.
