It is a quieter Wednesday around Miami football, but there is something interesting brewing on the recruiting trail.
Five-star EDGE Jalanie George has narrowed his recruitment to four schools:
- Miami
- Auburn
- Washington
- Wisconsin
George will announce his commitment on Thursday, 1st October.
Miami make the final four for Jalanie George
The Desert Edge High School prospect from Goodyear, Arizona is listed at around 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds by 247 sports and is regarded as one of the leading defensive prospects in the 2028 class.
Miami have been involved for a while.
George visited Coral Gables for Miami’s Legends Camp in June, where he worked with defensive line coach Jason Taylor.
That relationship now gives the Hurricanes a place at the table as his recruitment approaches a decision.
There is still a long way to go with any 2028 prospect, even after a commitment.
But getting one of the country’s leading young defensive players down to four schools is another sign of how aggressively Miami continue to recruit several classes ahead.
And let’s face it, having Jason Taylor teaching pass rushers is not the worst recruiting card to play.
Central Michigan becomes a test of Miami’s depth
The biggest story around the current team remains the injury situation announced earlier this week.
That is context rather than new Wednesday news, but it directly shapes Saturday’s game.
Running back CharMar “Marty” Brown and receiver Joshua Moore are out for the remainder of the season. Linebacker Ezekiel Marcelin Jr. is expected to miss several weeks.
Miami therefore have to start finding answers.
Saturday against Central Michigan provides a useful first opportunity.
The No. 6 Hurricanes are 3-0 and return to Hard Rock Stadium for the first time since putting 77 points on FAMU.
Miami do not need another ridiculous scoreboard.
They need to see what the revised rotation looks like.
Who steps up now?
Brown and Moore’s injuries create immediate opportunities.
At running back, Mark Fletcher Jr. remains the lead option when healthy, but freshman Javian Mallory has already shown why there was so much excitement around him.
Mallory has 196 rushing yards and two touchdowns through Miami’s opening three games.
Girard Pringle Jr. offers another option, while Jordan Lyle is back with the team and available to work his way into the rotation.
Receiver is equally interesting.
Malachi Toney is clearly Miami’s leading target, but Joshua Moore’s absence creates more work for Cooper Barkate, Daylyn Upshaw, Vandrevius Jacobs and Miami’s young receivers.
Central Michigan should give Shannon Dawson an opportunity to start working out how those pieces fit together.
The Last Word from Across the Pond
Not every day needs a massive headline, and this was a quieter Tuesday for the current Miami team.
The recruiting trail still gave us something worth watching, though.
Jalanie George is one of the leading defensive prospects in the 2028 class, Miami have got him on campus already and the Canes remain in his final four ahead of a 1 October decision.
For the 2026 team, Saturday is now about adapting.
Brown and Moore are gone for the year, so the depth Miami have spent years building is about to become important.
Central Michigan offers the first chance to see what the new rotation looks like.
