The Game

The No. 18 Miami Hurricanes delivered a confident and controlled performance at Hard Rock Stadium, defeating Syracuse 38–10 in a match defined by explosive moments, defensive pressure, and two momentum-swinging plays late in the first half.

For most of the opening half the game was a slow, grinding contest, with both teams struggling to find an early rhythm. Miami finally broke through with a beautifully designed trick play: freshman Malachi Toney took a hand-off on a reverse and lobbed a pass to quarterback Carson Beck, who was left wide open for a 14-yard touchdown. It was a spark the game desperately needed.

Moments later, the defence seized control. Cornerback Keionte Scott jumped a pass and returned it 38 yards for a pick-six, giving the Hurricanes a sudden 14–0 lead heading into the break. It was the decisive swing in a match that had felt tight until that point.

Second Half Surge

Miami carried that momentum straight into the third quarter.
Quarterback Carson Beck hit Keelan Marion on a quick slant that the receiver turned into a 61-yard touchdown, stretching the lead to 21–3.

The run game then took over, with Girard Pringle Jr. breaking free for a 19-yard rushing touchdown. The play of the night, however, came from an unexpected source: offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, who caught a backwards pass and powered his way into the end zone from three yards. A proper big-man moment.

Syracuse added a late score through Joseph Filardi, but by then the result was long settled.

Miami Offensive Highlights

Carson Beck produced one of his cleanest performances of the season:

18-of-24 passing

247 yards

1 passing TD

1 receiving TD

0 turnovers

Keelan Marion was the standout wide receiver with:

3 receptions

116 yards

1 TD

With Mark Fletcher Jr. unavailable, the rushing attack leaned on Girard Pringle Jr., who added 55 yards and a touchdown on 7 carries. Miami finished with more than 140 yards on the ground.

Malachi Toney’s receiving stats were modest, but his involvement in the trick-play touchdown shows his increasing value as a multi-threat weapon in this offence.

Miami Defensive Highlights

This was a dominant defensive performance:

6 total sacks

3 takeaways

Held Syracuse to 79 rushing yards

Allowed just 3 points until the final minute

Rueben Bain Jr. led the charge up front with constant pressure and 1.5 sacks.
Keionte Scott’s pick-six was the turning point in the match, while Jakobe Thomad added another interception in the third quarter.

Syracuse quarterbacks Rickie Collins and Joseph Filardi struggled throughout, finishing with fewer than 150 combined passing yards under heavy pressure.

Final Thoughts

This was the kind of performance Miami needed. Professional, controlled and confident. The Hurricanes executed on both sides of the ball, avoided turnovers, and created explosive plays when needed.

The defence looked like one of the best units in the country once again, and Carson Beck delivered the steady showing fans were hoping for after recent frustrations.

Now it’s about carrying this momentum into the final stretch of the season.

The Last Word from Across the Pond

From a UK fan’s perspective, this was a perfect Saturday night game, sensible start time, comfortable win, a few trick plays, a pick-six, and even a big-man touchdown for good measure.

Miami needed a reset after recent drama, and they delivered it. Strong defence, creative offence, no nail-biting finish. Exactly what we all wanted.
